Inspire a Leader

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 4.48.08 PMWe all have weeks that are more difficult than others. Do you know a leader that you want to inspire to keep doing amazing work?  One of the things that has helped me to keep my week on track has been when people have shared inspiring quotes with me that remind me to be my best self. So here’s a great way to do it yourself.  Download this file and print it off.  Cut out each of the picture quotes, drop them in an envelope and place the instructions on the outside. There are enough quotes to have one for each day of the week. Try giving it to your whole team or to someone you want to inspire.

Wishing you an awesome week!

How to Prevent Holiday Blues

HolidayCheerAmbassadorWe’ve all heard that the holiday season and winter in general can be a difficult time for many.  With 1/4 Canadians dealing with mental health issues we must not wait to react but rather we need opportunities to be preventative in our approach.  This season we are launching the hashtag #HolidayCheerAmbassador to help you share your stories of those who inspire you and help you to have hope during the holiday season.

Use the hashtag #HolidayCheerAmbassador and help us share stories, pictures and videos that can inspire us, demonstrate innovative solutions or simply remind us of the beauty that is all around us. We will check out all the stories you share and will feature our favourites right here on Worldviews Project!  Help us combat holiday blues by sharing stories that help us all to refocus on the positive!

Need some inspiration? Check out the stories we’ve shared on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!

How to be more thankful

Sometimes it is very easy to complain about all the negative things happening all around us.  We start to be bogged down by little things that annoy us until we burst.  Enter the “Thankfullness Jar.”

A friend of mine, Cathy Yost, shared her wisdom with me several years ago when she told me that every year she picks a word to focus on for the year.  I chose “thankfulness” for this year.  I have been learning that when we choose to state and share what we are thankful for we actually increase our feelings of positivity overall. For example, one study showed that expressing gratitude for someone or for something you have could increase you happiness by 25%. So how do you make expressing gratitude a habit? Continue reading

New Book Arrives!

Passport Project Book - Premiere Edition

I am so excited to announce the arrival of my new book: Passport Project! The premiere edition was launched at TEDxYYC and on the CBC Eye-Opener.  It has been exciting to hear about people using the book with their families, as team-building with their co-workers and on their own to explore their city!

All too often we think that we can only have an adventure if we go away to an exotic location.  It is easy to feel depressed or bored when we aren’t learning or growing or meeting new people.  This book was created so you could explore right in your own city and have amazing adventures and experiences that would remind you that life is awesome!  There are so many exciting and inspiring people and places to see and meet.  By expanding our worldviews we can break down barriers, misunderstandings and stereotypes and build bridges towards peace. I hope that by completing these challenges you will be inspired to share your positive stories. By sharing our positive stories we can combat mental health issues and become inspired to make positive change in our communities.

If you would like to purchase a copy of the book it is available for purchase at Shelf Life Books in Calgary.  We will have a limited number of books available for purchase as we travel across Canada as well.  If you would like to make a bulk order of the books please send us an email and we will arrange to have copies shipped to you.  For educators and youth leaders please enquire by email about our classroom and school license to receive special discounts on large orders.

TED Talk: Power of Positive News

In an age of negative news and increasing mental illness is it possible to pursue a positive alternative?  Kate McKenzie believes that peace both individually and internationally can only be brought about through sharing positive stories. So she founded Worldviews Project to inspire others to believe that positive change is possible by making short documentaries of people from nine countries over seven months. Continue reading

Happy Playlist

I created this playlist for those days when everything seems to go wrong.  Sometimes we all just need a little pick-me-up or something that will help us smile when we really don’t feel like it. So many songs out there just talk about what we’re missing in life or all the difficulty.   So, I wanted to put a playlist out there of some of my favourite artists (and those shared by many of you) that remind us why life’s good too. Enjoy!
