I am very excited about this year’s Calgary International Film Fest. It marks the long anticipated premiere of my friend Chris Hsiung’s film “Elder in the Making.” This film promises to bring a new dialogue around bridging cultural gaps and discovering our own roots. Check it out on Saturday Sept. 26 at 4:15 at the Globe Uptown Theatre.
If you haven’t ever had the chance to check out the shorts series at CIFF I would highly recommend it. Some of my favourite films in the past have been from this series. To ease into shorts check out Funnily Enough, A Women’s World, Life’s Work or Best of the Shorts.
To help support fellow Canadian filmmakers I would recommend Adrien or My Internship in Canada
Also on my list this year of films I hope to check out are some headlining films including The Lady in the Van, Room and Into the Forest.
Finally another eye-opening film that promises to be interesting is Naaz & Malik.
I love the power of film to help expand our worldview and open each of us to new ideas. Happy exploring!
