In the wake of the tragedy in Paris there have been many stories that insight fear and hate. Over the past week my goal has been to share a different perspective. I asked others to help me cast a light on people who showed courage and demonstrated the best that we as humans have to offer. The good news is that the stories have abounded. Often times people ask me if sharing positive news means ignoring the negative and I believe these stories show that it is possible to be informed yet to shift the perspective towards the hopeful.
Here are some of the stories we have uncovered this week:
How people reacted during the event:
How people reacted after the event:
Father teaches son about how to view the attacks differently.
I was also inspired by the message of unity and solidarity displayed by these young men. They demonstrate that love is greater than fear and that young men can have a powerful role to play in encouraging a peaceful response to violence.
We also found quotes that inspired us to change our perspective:
“We will never have a perfect world, but it’s not romantic or naive to work toward a better one.” Steven Pinker
Many people right now are feeling overwhelmed by the events taking place in Paris and by all of the negative news. Please help us encourage mental health by sharing these positive alternatives with your friends and family.
